The Bendir is a traditional frame drum used throughout North Africa (Morroco, Algeria , Tunisia ...). Its shell is made of (very light) orange tree wood and its head, of (very tight) goat- or plastic skin. It is generally equipped with a snare (made of gut) stretched across its head, which gives the instrument a distinctive buzzing sound when the hand hits the skin.
This model is a genuine traditional bendir made in Fès, by experienced craftsmen. A reliable instrument, with powerful sound, that you tune by placing it next to a source of heat (fire, electric heater)
